Go back to Introducing Indonesia Introducing Indonesia is the product of a unique partnership between the corporate community of the United States and Indonesia represented by their principal bi-national business organizations: the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce( US) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, US Committee (Indonesia), also known as KIKAS. The following member companies provided the financial support for this publication and the subsequent essay contest winner's tour of Indonesia.

The project managers express their thanks to the following individuals for their advice and counsel: Stephen Stein, Minister Hartarto, Minister Moerdiono, Ambassador Abdul Rachman Ramly, Tony Agus Ardie, Arian Ardie, Ambassador Arifin Siregar, Dr. Alwi Dahlan, Ian McCabe and the writers and editors at Scholastic Inc. who developed the material as a teacher's guide in 1995 under contract to the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce. The guides were sent to 77,000 US social studies teachers. In the original Scholastic publication of this material, a contest was included. Students were asked to write a 300 word essay discussing why Indonesia was important to the US. 6 student winner's were chosen as well as their teachers and parents for a 14 day trip throughout Indonesia in August of 1996. |
