Statement by the Government of The
Republic of Indonesia on North Korea's Nuclear Test
Oct 9th 2006 14:05 The Government of Indonesia reiterates its position that the
recent nuclear test conducted by DPRK (North Korea) is unacceptable under any
justifiable reason.
The nuclear test conducted by DPRK would only increase a new tension and
threatens stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The test would also trigger
nuclear proliferation in the region and impedes efforts by the international
community to undertake comprehensive nuclear disarmament in accordance with the
Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The Government of Indonesia is of the view that the possession and
development of nuclear weapon does not warrant the security and survival of any
country.
The Government of Indonesia is deeply concerned over the prospect of
nuclear proliferation in Asia, which stretches from West to
East Asia
while the same issue in the other regions have subsided.
The Government of Indonesia strongly urges the Government of DPRK to
refrain from developing nuclear weapon following its recent test.
The Government of Indonesia
also urges all parties of the Six Party Talks as well as the international
community to seriously seek a peaceful solution over the
North Korea
s nuclear issue.
